Introduction - Introducción

Hello, everyone!  I am going to be using this blog over the next two years to talk about my experiences in my mission that I served for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for two years, among the people of southeastern Mexico.  This blog is not intended to embellish, nor to detract, from the missionary experience in any way.  On the contrary, it is meant to show the realities of serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  For those that are prepared, it can be a great blessing in the lives of those that choose to serve the Lord with all their heart, mind, might, and strength.  You will find friends, that will become over time forever friends.  You will learn to respect the people whom God has called you to serve with.  You might have to express yourself in a tongue, or tongues, that are not familiar to you.

I will probably be clueing you in on some aspects about the LDS faith that inspired me to make this decision to serve, fifteen years ago, up until the 27th of June, when I was set apart as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ, on that date.

This blog will intend to follow my happenings fifteen years ago, day by day.  I hope that it may inspire others eventually to serve too.  I hope that it may be a catalyst for you to read these things for yourself, the insights, and scriptures, that I am going to share here.

¡Hola a todos!  Voy a usar este blog en estos dos años que vienen para hablar de mis experiencias en mi misión que serví por la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, por dos años, entre la gente de la región sudeste de México.  Este blog no está con el fin de embellecer ni detraer, sino a mostrar toda la realidad de servir una misión en la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días.  Por los quienes estén preparados, puede ser una gran bendición en las vidas de todos quienes escogen servir al Señor con todo su corazón, mente, poder, y fortaleza.  Encontrarás amigos, que llegarán a ser amigos para siempre.  Aprenderán a respetar a la gente quienes Dios te haya llamado para servirles.  Es posible que tendrás que utilizar otra lengua, u otras lenguas, para expresarte, lenguas que quizá no estés familiarizada.

En estos días yo voy a darles unos aspectos de mi fe SUD que inspiró a mi tomar esta decisión de servir, hace quince años, hasta el 27 de junio del 2005, cuando fui apartado como misionero por la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, en esa fecha.

Este blog seguirá mis pasos hace quince años, día por día.  Espero que puedan inspirar a otros a servir eventualmente.  Espero que pueda ser la causa para que puedas leer estas cosas por ti mismo, tanto las reflexiones, como las escrituras, que voy a compartir aquí.

First Week in the MTC - Primera Semana en el CCM

30 June - 04 July 2005 After having slept that first night at the MTC, at 6:30 in the morning our alarms sounded.  The first week at the MTC was rather special.  We have different classes in which we study together as a district and as companionships, and we also learn directly from a teacher about different functions in the Spanish language; the first one being how to pray in the language.  I also had grammar class between a couple of former missionaries:  Sister Morón and Brother Limón.  Very quickly, he latched on to me in a way because I was going to go to where his brother had been called, and soon after his sister would be called there.   The real highlight was the Stadium of Fire that happened barely a mile away on the Fourth of July.  The Stadium of Fire is a spectacle that is done every Independence Day at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah.  Missionaries are supposed to go to bed early but the MTC president made an exception and ...

Day One, Missionary Training Center - Día Uno, Centro de Capacitación Misional

29 June 2005 I woke up slightly earlier; it was 0600 hours.  After having breakfast, it was time for me to be driven down to Provo, Utah to a special place known as the Missionary Training Center (MTC).  This is the place where missionaries are trained before they go out to their different fields of labor.  Before we did go down, though, Sister Garrett decided to treat me to a root-beer flavored ice cream, and afterwards, to see Rachael Garrett, the second of the three daughters, who was living in Murray, Utah.  We took some pictures together, one of them simulating a hug, which would later prove scandalous to some missionaries in the field (missionaries are prohibited from fraternizing with the opposite sex during their time in the field).  After leaving Rachael behind, we set out for the MTC, and arriving there, we sat in an auditorium, where I noted Sister Garrett crying.  I never really understood why she cried, except for later on when she told me that...
